I suppose my appreciation of the cal kings is bordering on the fanatical. I am always enamored with the great diversity of pattern and color combinations.
I have kept the cal kings since the beginning, and they were the second species of snake I ever hatched. Currently I am focusing on abberancy in my group, and they are my version of an art collection. I am not as fond of the albinos because in my opinion by removing the black from the pattern you lose the key to the contrast that makes these snakes so beautiful. The same is true in my eyes for many species of snakes.
I prefer to breed strictly for variable patterns, and leave the colors present. Actually, breeding of the cal kings has taken a back seat to my just appreciating them for their beauty.

Female banana I hatched in 2000

	Adult female banded Cal King. She normally produces several dot dash offspring each year, in addition to a few other degrees of abberancy.			Male coastal striped cal. Yearly mate to the female at left.
	Male dotdash patterned, produced here in 1999. This fellow went AWOL in August of '00, and was on the lamb for 8 months. He turned up still in the snake room, and very healthy.			Female dotdash, produced here in 1999. She will breed in 2003 with the male to the left.
	Female banana cal king produced here in 2000 Her and the male to the right are het albino, the product of breeding the striped male pictured above to a banded albino female.			Male banana cal king produced here in 2000 Interestingly, this clutch produced no dot dash patterns, while mating the same male to the normal banded female above hasn't resulted in any bananas in 4 seasons.
